About

What we do

The Graduate Institute of Cooperative Leadership (GICL) takes a research-based approach to providing executive education to agricultural cooperative stakeholders. The managers and directors who participate in GICL programs learn the latest co-op-focused managerial best practices and take away strategic and operational tools they can apply when leading their co-op businesses.

GICL’s goal is to contribute to the long-term success of agricultural cooperatives through the generation of new knowledge and development of advanced programs.

GICL provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge among a diverse group of participants including cooperative managers, governing bodies, and scholars. GICL fills a unique research and educational need in the specialized field of producer-owned and-controlled firms. Recognized for leading-edge thinking about cooperatives, GICL marked its 50th year in 2022 with over 2,500 alumni serving cooperatives across the globe.

GICL’s programs include:

  • Summer Institute
  • Board Chair/CEO Conference
  • Bob and Lynda Engel Workshop Series
  • Customized programs for agricultural cooperatives

Our Board of Trustees provides guidance and support regarding GICL’s programs.
